(KNSI) – The St. Cloud City Council will vote on approving a large development that includes four apartment buildings, a fitness center, and retail space in south St. Cloud.
The Klein Landscaping Planned Unit Development will be off 33rd Street South near the new Tech High School. The 42-acre site would include 287 apartments in the four buildings, green space, a 90,000 square foot fitness center, a 60,000 square feet of retail space, a 45,000 square foot assisted living facility and a 40,000 square foot office building. Plans include a coffee shop with a drive-thru, a bank and a restaurant.
At the last city council meeting in May, Developer Larry Klein said they scaled back the number of apartments for the project. A public hearing was held earlier this month, but a vote was tabled due to the absence of some council members. The St. Cloud Planning Commission is recommending approval of the project. Officials have called the development a catalyst site for future growth in south St. Cloud.
The city council will also vote on rezoning 77 acres of land off of County Road 136 and 255th Street from an agricultural district to commercial planned unit development to allow a 17-acre commercial development for a landscaping company and six 10-acre single-family lots.
Public safety requests are expected to be considered Monday night as the police department is currently using 487 surveillance cameras across nine systems. The cameras vary in brand, technology, age, capacity and capability. Police want to replace all systems with a single program capable of expansion as St. Cloud grows. Officials are asking for $997,936.39 to replace the systems. The funding will come from the City’s American Rescue Plan Act money.
The St. Cloud Fire Department asks for $97,528.29 to repair one of its ladder trucks. According to the fire department, Tower Ladder 2 has a hydraulic fluid leak and a malfunctioning hydraulic system. The ladder truck is put of commission, and it could take up to two months to fix.
The St. Cloud Fire Department will ask for $97,528.29 to repair one of its ladder trucks. According to the fire department, tower ladder two has a hydraulic fluid leak and a malfunctioning hydraulic system. The fire department says tower ladder two serves two critical roles. The first includes coverage anytime tower ladder one is down for service. The second applies to the use of an emergency callback system to cover the city while a fire is occurring, providing a second tower ladder for city coverage while simultaneous incidents arise. The department says it’s crucial to fix because it’s out of commission, and it could take up to two months to fix.
The council meeting gets underway at 6:00.
