(KNSI) – Minnesota lawmakers failed to come to a budget deal and pass several other bills before Monday morning’s deadline. Legislative leaders will meet with Governor Tim Walz to ask for a special session.

The 2022 session closed without a previously agreed-upon $4 billion tax deal, tax relief, public safety bill, education proposals and aid for long-term care facilities. The tax agreement is tied to a broader deal for an additional $4 billion in spending.

There are few details about a special session, which could happen this week. The governor is the only person who can call a special session. He hasn’t said if he will call one.

Republicans and Democrats blame each other for the impasses.

The Legislative Session has seen several bills passed with support on both sides of the aisle. Lawmakers passed frontline worker bonus pay, reinsurance extension, and a budget bill for veterans, including funding for three vets’ homes and bonuses for veterans in the War on Terror. On the final day of the session, lawmakers passed a large Agriculture, Broadband, and Drought relief bill to help farmers.
