(KNSI) – A first-of-its-kind car show in the St. Cloud area will help support families of police who’ve been hurt or killed in the line of duty. The Back the Badge Car Show is on May 21st, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Crossroads Center mall. SCPD Lt. Lori Ellering says there will be lots to see at the show.
“All makes models vehicles yours are welcome. Attendance is free for spectators. There’s a $20 entry fee and there’s going to be prizes and food trucks. We’re also going to have some SWAT vehicles for the students, county sheriff’s departments. We’re going to have a fire truck police cars kind of come out and visit with some of your local public safety professionals as well.”
All proceeds from the event will go to the Law Enforcement Labor Services Benevolent Fund. It’s the organization’s first big fundraising event. Ellering says the fund will help police departments across the state and is a way to be prepared.
“So often when you know a specific agency has a member hurt or killed they tried to do a fundraiser so this is just a way for the departments to be able to have a pre existing system set up.”
Law Enforcement Labor Services (LELS) is Minnesota’s largest public safety labor union and represents around 7,000 police, fire, 911 dispatchers, corrections officers, and public safety support staff throughout Minnesota.
