(KNSI) – The Apple Duathlon is set to test elite athletes to their core on Friday, May 20th, and Saturday, May 21st.
Three different races are happening over the two days. On Friday evening, a 5k run will occur without closing any roads. It begins and ends at the Sartell Middle School.
A duathlon features running and biking, with a short course and USA Triathlon sanctioned race both happening Saturday morning. All race segments begin at the middle school. Athletes who want to tackle the longer course must be a member of USA Triathlon. You can get the license at their website.
Organizer Heather Corcoran of Active Central Minnesota says the spectator experience matters at the Apple Duathlon. “I think it’s really spectator friendly compared to some other events where you really only see your athlete once,” she says.
Giving attendees access to the course and near the transition area means some road closures on Saturday morning. Two thoroughfares are most affected, especially 7th Street North near the middle school.
“These are road closures only for Saturday. 7th Street to Riverside will be closed from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM…Riverside from 7th to 12th only northbound traffic.” There will also be streets affected from 12th Street North to 40th Street.
A full map of the course is available here. You can also volunteer at the website. Corcoran says they are short what is needed right now.
