Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Results

(KNSI) – The National Letter Carriers Association and its partnering charities are declaring Saturday’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive a success.

This year’s effort was an unknown coming in. The last time it was held under normal conditions was in 2019, before the COVID pandemic. No one involved knew how much momentum it would generate.

Coordinator Sandra Miller says the community chipped in above and beyond expectations. “We were able to collect over 15,000 pounds of food, and we still have a little trinkling in here and there,” she says.

Not every customer picks up mail daily. Even though the drive was this weekend, Miller says many are just now seeing the collection bags and adding items to the overall haul. She also wants to thank those who donated the gift of time for their hard work.

“For the pickup, I had about 10, 12 volunteers. Catholic Charities gets their own and Salvation Army gets their own that help out at the Food Shelf to get it separated and sorted,” she says.

The numbers were down a little bit from pre-pandemic times, but Miller says everything is appreciated just a touch more this year. Surging inflation is testing the budgets of many Saint Cloud Area residents.
