(KNSI) — Former Minneapolis police officer Thomas Lane has pled guilty to aiding and abetting manslaughter for this role in the May 2020 death of George Floyd.
Next month, Lane was scheduled to go on trial for aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death. Last month, the state offered plea deals to Lane and his two codefendants, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao.
The three were found guilty of civil rights violations in February.
In the deal, Lane received three years to be served concurrently with his to-be-determined federal sentence. Sentencing for the manslaughter plea is set for September 21st. The charge of abetting second-degree murder was dismissed.
Kueng and Thao are still scheduled to go on June 13th.
Lane entered his guilty plea in the same Hennepin County courtroom where former officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of murder for killing George Floyd.
