(KNSI) — The Mississippi River and the Sauk River are under renewed flood warnings.
The flood warning for the Mississippi is in effect until at least 7:00 Friday morning. The National Weather Service says the flood stage on the Mississippi River at St. Cloud is nine feet. The river is expected to crest at 9.5 feet and stay there until at least Thursday afternoon.
The flood warning for the Sauk River is in effect until further notice. The flood stage on the Sauk River is six feet. It is expected to crest at eight feet early Monday morning.
The Rocori Trail Bridge over the Sauk River in Cold Spring is closed to all users due to the high flooding from the recent rain. The Cold Spring Fire Chief and City Emergency Manager will determine when the bridge will be safe to resume pedestrian and biking activities.
Low roads from Richmond to St. Cloud may be flooded, and some roads have already closed. If a driver encounters a closed or flooded road, meteorologists say to turn around and find another way. Police warn that driving around barricades is illegal. Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and possible stalling. A foot of water will float many vehicles. Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles, including sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks.
