(KNSI) – Stearns County has put a no wake ordinance on multiple lakes, rivers and streams due to high water. The sheriff’s office says the no-wake rule was put in place because the significant rain this week led to high water levels on all Stearns County bodies of water.
Ordinance 534 places a no wake restriction within 300 feet of shore on Grass Lake, Clearwater Lake, Augusta Lake, Carolina Lake, Lake Maria, and Lake Louisa. Several other area lakes have posted “Emergency No Wake Zone” signs. Those lakes are Carnelian, Beaver, Two Rivers, and the entire Sauk River Chain of Lakes in the Richmond and Cold Spring area.
The sheriff’s office asks boaters to slow down when within 100 yards of shore. High water combined with unnecessary wakes has the potential to cause damage to both the shoreline, docks and lifts and homes.
This weekend is also Minnesota’s Fishing Opener and some accesses may be affected by flooding.
