(KNSI) – Four people were rescued after their canoe tipped in Lake Sagatagan in Collegeville. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they were called around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and told that only one of them in the water had a life jacket.

St. John’s University Life Safety launched a small boat and picked up the four males. Two of them were taken to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of possible hypothermia. The other two refused medical attention. One of the canoers said he was in the water for nearly 20 minutes before being brought back to shore.

The sheriff’s office reminds everyone to wear a life jacket when participating in any water or boating activity. Deputies say even skilled swimmers are at risk of drowning during a boating accident or in cold waters.
