(KNSI) — Twenty internet providers have all agreed to lower prices for their service to qualifying households.
The federal Affordable Connectivity Program, formerly known as the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program, which was in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, helps lower-income households receive a discount on internet service or $100 one time to purchase a laptop or desktop computer, or tablet through certain providers. Internet providers were asked to offer plans of no more than $30 a month. The ACP will cover that, so households on the program will essentially receive high-speed internet at no cost.
It is estimated that around 40% of American households will qualify for the program.
