(KNSI) – St. Cloud has delayed a decision on a large development project in south St. Cloud. The Klein Landscaping Planned Unit Development off the 4000 block of 33rd Street South has been tabled until the next city council meeting. The project includes four apartment buildings, an assisted living facility, a fitness center, office space and retail space.

A public hearing was held a Monday’s City Council meeting. Developer Larry Klein spoke during the hearing and said they’re building fewer but nicer apartments.

“We’re targeting to the more upper scale multifamily housing. We had a higher density ratio of about 353 units. With the investment group that we’re dealing with, they have a preference of bigger units as well as more common space. So the count went down to 287.”

He says the area will feature green space, a pond and landscaping.

“Some of the concept plans are showing a little bit heavier landscaping improvements on the property, since we are in that trade.”

The 42-acre site is expected to spark new growth in St. Cloud.

“With the new Tech High School being completed. We feel there’s going to be a lot of growth to take place along 33rd Street and we feel like this is a good starting point.”

Developers say plans could change as tenants and businesses commit to the project. The proposal was tabled because some council members were missing from Monday’s meeting.
