(KNSI) – A St. Cloud businessman calls it a career after more than 60 years. Tom Miller of Miller Marine and formally of Miller Auto Plaza is retiring. Tom was born and raised in St. Cloud and got into the car business before he started selling boats. He says they never planned to move into the boat business.
“We got into it by accident. One day, we were in a recession and a whole bunch of boats were available to be bought. And we bought them boat sold them. And all of a sudden we’re in the marine business.”
He’s been in the boat business for 32 years. Miller says he has enjoyed working with families and people the most.
“They come in, you know, they’re looking for something new, and you can put something together for them. They come in with the family, the wife, the kids, and everybody gets excited about getting something to get out on the water and the nice weather and this kind of stuff.”
Tom has built Miller Marine into the world’s largest Bennington pontoon and tri-toon dealer. Tom sold Miller auto plaza two years ago to Gilleland Chevrolet. His last day in the boat business was Monday.
