(KNSI) – Republican Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach has released a statement in support of the alleged majority opinion in a United States Supreme Court case regarding abortion. Five justices are rumored to support breaking with Roe v. Wade, a decision from the early 70’s that enshrined access to abortion as a constitutional right. Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was heard by the court in oral arguments in December.

Fischbach says the issue should be debated by the residents of each state through their elected representatives. She says, “This is a deeply needed step to protect the most precious and basic right, the right to life.”

Fischbach says Chief Justice John Roberts is correct to call for an investigation into the leak, which became public when the draft was published by the online media outlet Politico. Fischbach accuses the leaker of attempting to intimidate the potential majority, swaying their vote.

Reaction has been swift on both sides of the aisle. Democratic Governor Tim Walz said late Monday that there would never be an abortion ban with him in office.
