(KNSI) — The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an inmate’s death in an Anoka County jail cell.
Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart says about 1:07 a.m. on May 1st, detention deputies immediately began lifesaving measures and called for help after finding the man unresponsive in his cell. The unnamed inmate was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, Stuart says, “this is a tragic situation in which we anxiously await the results of the investigation and the report from the medical examiner. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family during this time.”
Per protocol, the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and will be assisted by the Midwest Medical Examiner.
