(KNSI) — The Sauk Rapids-Rice School Board has approved a contract for the interim high school Activities Director.

The district opened applications for the position last month. According to a press release, several candidates were narrowed down to three. Those candidates were interviewed on April 14th, complete with a tour of the school, and individual interview sessions with representatives from the school board, district administration, staff, students, and activities advisors and coaches.

Contract negotiations were opened on April 20th with Philip Klaphake, and the board approved the contract on Monday, April 25th.

The name may be familiar to families in the district. Klaphake is currently serving as the Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School Activities Director, Sauk Rapids Recreation Director, and the Sauk Rapids-Rice Varsity Head Football Coach. He has been activities director at the middle school since 2016. He has also served as the Sauk Rapids-Rice Head Football Coach and Sauk Rapids Recreation Director since July of 2016.

As interim activities director for Sauk Rapids-Rice High School, his term starts July 1st, 2022. He will also return as head coach for the 2022/2023 season for the football team.

Activities Director NaDean Schroeder is resigning, effective June 30th, to be closer to her family. She has been the activities director for the last six years.
