(KNSI) — The Minneapolis Police Department says officers are investigating after four people were killed in that city since Friday.
About 10:15 Friday morning, someone called 911 to report that a 50-year-old man had been assaulted. Police found medics attending to the unconscious victim in the 600 block of 1st Street North. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 33-year-old was arrested and is being held awaiting murder charges.
Just before noon Saturday, someone called the police about a person with a gun in the 4100 block of Portland Avenue South. That call quickly escalated to a shooting. The victim was found in a car about four blocks away. They died at the hospital. Police say they found two potential suspects going into a house near where the shooting was reported. A man and a woman surrendered and were taken into custody about two and a half hours later.
One person was shot to death about 12:30 Sunday morning after an argument inside Williams Pub in the Uptown area. It started as a shots fired call heard by an off duty officer nearby. Witnesses told investigators that the fight began inside the bar and spilled out into the street. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Less than two hours later and just a few blocks away, Metro Transit police responded after an argument broke out on a bus and a person was stabbed. The victim died at the scene. The suspect is still on the run. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the victim’s name and the cause and manner of death.
No arrests have been made in either the shooting or the stabbing.
These incidents all came after a 20-year-old man was shot in the 5100 block of Bryant Avenue North Wednesday afternoon. He was taken to the hospital, where he died Friday. No arrests have been made in that case.
Neither Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey nor interim Minneapolis Police Chief Amelia Huffman has denounced the violence. Last year, Minneapolis recorded 96 homicides, one short of the record and double the number of homicides recorded in 2019.
