(KNSI) – Summer Youth Camp is back, beginning in June. The one-day sessions will take place in four locations, carefully selected to be within geographic proximity to as many children as possible.

Deputy Sheriff Brian Theisen says the camp is meant for kids between the ages of eight and 12 years old. He says, “Because if they get too young, it’s hard to keep them interested all day.” Theisen says teenagers are harder to keep focused for the full one-day session as well, lasting from roughly 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

A wide variety of topics are covered. Theisen says, “Our Water Patrol is going to do a talk, we’re gonna have DNR come and do a talk on wildlife. I’m hoping to have Lifelink Helicopter come again, and land, and explain some of the stuff they do. Whatever ambulance service is in the area, have them come and do a little talk. We usually have our K-9 guys come.” Local fire departments also present.

Each camp is limited to 30 children. Theisen says he would prefer if parents email him the medical waiver and registration forms (found here). There is no charge to enroll your kid. The sessions are weather dependent and a make-up date has already been scheduled if necessary. It is listed on the flyer for each location.

Youth Safety Camp will happen at Warner Lake Park on Tuesday, June 21st, Paynesville Airport on Thursday, June 23rd, Jaycees Park in Sauk Centre on Tuesday, July 12th, and Veteran’s Park in Holdingford on Wednesday, July 13th.

Food and refreshments are provided by Sheriff Department staff. Theisen can be reached at brian.theisen@co.stearns.mn.us.
