(KNSI) – St. Cloud is set to hire an architect for the proposed Municipal Athletic Complex expansion project headed before voters this fall. Officials have recommended the approval of JLG Architect to design the renovation and for site analysis.

The city would pay $105,000—forty-five thousand dollars for the design and $60,000 for analysis. The item is listed in the consent agenda for Monday’s city council meeting.

In November, St. Cloud voters will need to approve a half-cent sales tax to raise $21.1 million to upgrade the MAC. The sports center would get a 30,000 to 40,000 square foot addition, including locker rooms, training areas, pregame areas, storage, artificial turf to Dick Putz and Joe Faber field, maintenance upgrades, and additional paved parking.

The city received $10 million from the 2020 Minnesota bonding bill for the project. The rest is up to the city to raise.
