(KNSI) – Two college professors in central Minnesota have been honored for their work in the classroom. The Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system has awarded St. Cloud State University English professor Michael Dando and mathematics professor
Melissa Hanzsek-Brill has been named Educators of the Year.

The award recognizes exceptional professional accomplishment and excellence while leading scholarly and civic lives, according to a press release.

Officials say Dando’s teaching, service, and research center on community and student-driven opportunities. Administrators say he provides for democratic engagement, critical thinking, and self-expression. Hanzsek-Brill was called an exemplary teacher, scholar and engaged community steward for more than 25 years. She was called an inspiration to her students.

They were among eight university or colleges teachers recognized statewide by the board of trustees.
