(KNSI) – Third-party candidate for governor, Cory Hepola, sat down in-studio with Dan “The Ox” Ochsner Tuesday afternoon. The former Minneapolis radio host was adorned in a purple blazer, advertising his commitment to take the best ideas from both parties to find something that works in Minnesota.
Hepola had some tough talk for current Democratic leadership. He says both the corporate and individual state tax rates are stifling Minnesota’s economy.
“We have a $9.2 billion surplus, that’s inefficient government. A top-five individual income tax state, top-six corporate — Yes, we need to find a new formula.”
Hepola says the state has a quirky streak born out of a great education system and high intelligence. He gives Democrats high marks for stressing schools and healthcare funding. At the same time, Hepola says Governor Tim Walz went way too far with his COVID-19 State of Emergency declaration.
“It was an abuse of emergency powers. That’s not true leadership, that’s dictatorship and that’s to leverage your party into a better deal.”
Hepola says the GOP is failing to get out and meet with individuals one-on-one in a grassroots way, which hinders their ability to connect and create a platform that everyone feels comfortable with. Hepola hails from Otter Tail County.
