(KNSI) – Road construction begins Monday on a heavily used street in Sartell. Work crews are scheduled to reconstruct Riverside Avenue/County Road 1 on April 18th.

The work will be done in three phases. The first phase is between 4th Street North and 7th Street North. The road will be closed to traffic, and detours will be posted.

The project includes an 8-foot wide paved trail from Sartell Street to 12th Street North, multiple overlooks of the Mississippi River, a new pedestrian bridge, improvements to Veterans Park, reconstruction of the parking lot at Watab Park, and safety measures throughout the area.

The entire project is expected to take until November, with the final pavement in the spring of 2023.

Four parks in Sartell will be closed because of the work. Watab Park and Linear Park closed on Monday. Veterans Park will close on June 1st to allow the Memorial Day service on May 30th, and Rotary Park will close on August 1st. The parks will stay closed until November 30th. Police will be monitoring the parks for trespassers.
