(KNSI) – Minnesota Department of Transportation contractors are halting road work on Highway 15 in Kimball indefinitely. Issues surrounding a railroad permit are causing the snag, and more details will be announced when they become available.
Crews are pulling down a detour route for now that would have diverted through traffic on an 18-mile circuit. Motorists would have been forced to loop along Highway 55 towards Watkins, turning onto Meeker County Road 17 and then to Highway 24 before rejoining 15 just north of Kingston.
When work resumes, crews will be fixing the road, curbs, and gutters, and upgrading underground sewer lines and utilities. Sidewalk work and installing new overhead street lights are also planned.
