Original story:
(KNSI) – The Minnesota State Patrol is looking for bad drivers in Central Minnesota this week. The Highway Enforcement for Aggressive Traffic or HEAT patrols are taking place between St. Cloud and Sauk Centre on Interstate 94.
On Tuesday, troopers stopped 37 vehicles for speeding. One person was given a ticket for going 92 mph in a 65 mph zone with a revoked driver’s license. Another person was cited for underage drinking and driving.
HEAT patrols were back on the same stretch of road on Wednesday. The state patrol started conducting HEAT patrol last month as a way to combat speeding and aggressive driving after the number of fatal accidents jumped dramatically in the last two years. In 2020 there were 394 fatal crashes and 465 fatal crashes in 2021. That’s compared to 364 fatal accidents in 2019.
