(KNSI) — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for several counties as a powerful storm system makes its way to Minnesota.
The watch includes Kandiyohi, McLeod, Meeker, Renville, Sherburne, Sibley, and Wright counties. The watch is in effect until midnight.
High winds with gusts of 65 miles an hour, scattered hail, and tornadoes are all possible with this system. The greatest risk for tornadoes, including a strong tornado or two, exists this evening in south-central Minnesota.
Storms already blew through parts of southern Minnesota, dropping quarter-sized hail and packing winds strong enough to blow semi trucks off the road.
Forecasters say to have a way to get warnings tonight.
