(KNSI) – Health care professionals in the St. Cloud area are suggesting people get another COVID-19 vaccine. CentraCare Lead COVID Physician Dr. George Morris says he will be rolling up his sleeve for another shot.
“In the next couple of months I think it’s a good idea to get a booster. I had my third shot in October and I would anticipate that I’m going to get a fourth shot this spring.”
He says if it’s been longer than six months since your last vaccination, your body’s ability to fight the virus is weakening.
“We see that decrease in the immune response and that’s true with the vaccine or with the previous COVID. We know that if you had COVID in December or January your immune response due to the infection is also going downhill.”
He says if you plan to travel or gather in large crowds, you’ll want to consider getting vaccinated as an extra layer of protection.
“If I know I’m going to have a family reunion, I would get your booster a couple of weeks ahead of time to give your body a chance to get that vaccine working. If I’m going on a late spring break I would get your booster before traveling.”
He says CentraCare’s Southpoint Clinic will continue running its vaccination clinic until April 15th. After that, you will need to get the vaccine through your doctor. He says to check with your insurance provider to ensure you are covered before getting a vaccine.
He says it’s not too late to get your primary vaccination if you haven’t already.
