(KNSI) — Even though winter hasn’t quite left, it’s time for one of Minnesota’s other seasons; road construction.
Orange barrels are going up Friday on Interstate 94 as crews begin the final summer of construction between Clearwater and Maple Grove. Striping, signing, and lane shift work begins at 6:00 p.m. and will last until Monday, April 18th, weather permitting. This work will include barrier placement, final crossover work, signing, and striping to accommodate two lanes of eastbound traffic in the westbound lanes.
It’s the complete opposite from last year when traffic in both directions was funneled to the westbound lanes. A third lane of traffic in both directions will be added between the Highway 25 exit in Monticello and Wright County Road 8 at the Hasty/Silver Creek Township exit.
There will also be short-term shoulder and lane closures, but there won’t be any lane crossover. That comes after the first phase is over. At that time, the Enfield Rest Area will close until the road work lifts in August.
