(KNSI) — A St. Cloud man accused of punching and strangling a woman is facing nine charges.
According to the criminal complaint, police began the investigation on April 4th after the woman reported multiple instances of abuse at the hands of Daniel Joseph Sima, roughly dating back to March 1st. She said she would go to bed before he did, and he would stay up to drink or do drugs in the living room. In the middle of the night, when she wakes up, she says she goes to check on him and confront him. She told investigators Sima came down the hall that night and punched her, causing her to fall over. He also suffocated her in the bedroom to stop her from yelling for help.
She told investigators she woke up on March 27th and Sima was still in the living room, so she confronted him. He charged at her and punched her again, and then strangled her in the bedroom until she passed out. She told Sima to leave, which he did.
The criminal complaint says she decided she had enough and left on March 29th but didn’t call the police because she hoped it would get better.
According to the criminal complaint, the woman showed police text messages between her and Sima in which he apologized for the assault and said he’d do anything, and asked to start over.
On April 3rd, the woman went to the hospital for treatment.
Sima is charged with one felony count of stalking, two counts of felony domestic assault by strangulation, and six counts of gross misdemeanor domestic assault.
Bail has been set at $60,000 with no conditions and $30,000 with.
