(KNSI) — Police in Roseville say the suspect accused of shooting an officer Tuesday night fired more than 100 rounds over a three block area.
Police Chief Erika Scheider says about 7:30, neighbors reported hearing gunshots. When police arrived to the “chaotic” scene, they “immediately came under fire” and an officer was shot in the face. The officer is listed in stable condition. They are expected to survive.
The 53-year-old suspect was found about 8:00 lying on the ground in a backyard. He was suffering from a “catastrophic” gunshot wound to the groin, which was reportedly fired by an officer. Scheider says they immediately began first aid, but the suspect lost consciousness and died at the hospital.
Roseville police said they were familiar with the address and had responded there about 15 times in the past.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is taking over the investigation.
