(KNSI) — The Saint Cloud State Planetarium is an official partner in this year’s Statewide Star Party. Thursday through Saturday evening, from 6:00 to 8:00, the facility will be putting on an introduction to sky watching that’s cosmic fun for the whole family.

Director Rachel Humphrey says, “We’re going to be hosting some guest lectures, and some arts and crafts and other hands-on activities that are suitable for all ages, really.”

For anyone interested in attending, they are asked to email planetarium@saintcloudstate.edu for directions to the campus facility, and for more information.

The planetarium is a focal point of the university’s educational outreach efforts. It hosts free events throughout the year and recent upgrades have made it a resource for a variety of college disciplines.

Humphrey says, “We have a new projection system, actually, which is kind of exciting because now we can show interdisciplinary movies. So, not just astronomy movies, which are great, but we also have topics related to anthropology, paleontology, and a whole bunch of other things.”

Humphrey expects students to be producing and making films in the coming years that will be shown at the facility.

The planetarium was constructed in 1973 and is housed inside the Wick Science Building.
