(KNSI) — A woman needed to be rescued Sunday afternoon after falling out of her kayak and into the icy waters of the Mississippi River.
The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was called about 4:00 for a stranded kayaker about a mile south of Little Falls. Sheriff Shawn Larsen says 51-year-old Heidi Schmidt became stuck between sheets of ice. Rescue crews from several area departments pulled her out of the water. She was taken to St. Cloud Hospital. Schmidt is expected to be OK.
Larsen praised the collaboration between all of the departments saying the rescue was dangerous for them and for Schmidt.
