(KNSI) – Stearns County wants to know what residents think about extending the county’s local transportation sales tax. Stearns County holds the first of three public meetings on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Wakefield Town Hall.
According to a press release, these sessions are a chance for county residents to hear about the sales tax options and give input on whether or not the county board should extend the tax or how it should be used if or extended.
Stearns County officials are thinking about extending the sales tax by another five years, increasing the tax from .25% to .50%, letting the tax sunset on December 31st, increasing the sales tax, and cutting the Highway Department portion of the county tax levy by $1.2 million.
The county will be holding several public input opportunities to discuss options.
If you can’t make it to one of the sessions but would like to give your opinion, contact the Stearns County Highway Department at (320) 255-6180, or send an email at highway@co.stearns.mn.us. Information can also be found on the Stearns County website.
