(KNSI) — The Minnesota State Patrol says troopers responded to 254 crashes and spinouts Wednesday morning as roads were slushy and slippery after the second wave of the winter-like storm moved through the area.
Between 4:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., there were 157 crashes reported. Nineteen of those were injury crashes – one of them serious. There were also 97 spinouts, and one jackknifed semi reported. A trooper’s squad car was also rear-ended, but the trooper was not hurt.
Sergeant Jesse Grabow says road conditions were especially bad in west-central Minnesota. That area got between six and ten inches of snow.
The National Weather Service says the wintery mix of rain, sleet, and freezing rain will change over to all snow Wednesday afternoon and diminish overnight. Forecasters say the system should be gone around sunrise Thursday.
