(KNSI) — Two disc golf tournaments are scheduled by the end of May, getting the season off to a roaring start. Saint Cloud Disc Golf Club member Tim Mackey says the sport is booming in popularity among all age groups. In a lot of cases, it is now the first exposure someone has to a frisbee.

“What’s happening is players are finding disc golf before they find other frisbee games like freestyle, or distance, or even Ultimate. So, they kind of bypass that whole part of playing catch.”

An amateur event is scheduled for April 9th at Calvary Hill. If you would like to take part Mackey encourages you to reach out to organizer Adam Gorres. He believes same-day registration is also possible.

On May 21st and 22nd, a B-tier professional tournament is scheduled at Hidden Lake Park in Saint Augusta. Mackey says the course is one of the best in the area, one of two to get a gold designation.

“That course recently had some really nice upgrades, tee pads, and course development. It’s considered one of our gold courses. The other one is Mayhew Creek in Sauk Rapids, which is connected to the high school up there.”
