(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Tech Tigers punched their ticket to the Minnesota State High School League championship tournament on Thursday night. The Tiger beat Alexandria 71-69 to take the Section 8AAA title. Tigers Head Coach Don Ferguson talked with KNSI’s Saturday Sports Show shortly after the game and was asked what it’s like to be called section champions.
“It’s like a ring to my ears. God is good. I’m at such a loss for words. It’s been almost 15 to 16 years, since the team has been to the state tournament from Tech High School.”
Ferguson says he can’t wait for the team to show Minnesota what they can do.
“We have some guys who can play. So, I’m excited that the state is going to get to see these kids on a big stage.”
He said he knew this team was special early in the season.
“And I’ve been saying this to our kids all year long. I said we’re sleeper. Right. And we’ve been underdog all year. We were not ranked in the top 20 the top 10 all year and we’ve beat top 10 teams,we’re not going there. Just excited just to be there. We’re going there to try to take care of business.”
You can hear the entire conversation during the Saturday Sports show at 6 a.m. on KNSI AM 1450 and FM 99.3.
KNSI Sports will follow the Tech Tigers as the team goes for a state title. The tournament starts on Tuesday, March 22nd, and goes through Saturday, March 26th.
