(KNSI) — The Pope County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Big Lake man in connection to the abduction of a 2-year-old that triggered an AMBER Alert Thursday afternoon.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, a 911 call came in from someone in Paynesville saying that Robert Ramirez was in their garage. He was taken to St Cloud hospital for evaluation and is currently in the custody of his mother.

Investigators tracked the suspect down at his home. After a brief struggle with police, he was taken into custody shortly after 11:00 Thursday night. The suspect is in the Kandiyohi County jail awaiting formal kidnapping charges.

KNSI does not typically name suspects until they have been formally charged.
