(KNSI) — A St. Cloud Norsemen team member has been honored with the 2022 Minnesota Mr. Hockey award.

Forward Max Strand was named Mr. Hockey after finishing eighth in the Minnesota State High School League with 78 points scoring 36 goals, and getting 42 assists this season with Roseau High School.

Since 1985, the Mr. Hockey Award has been given to the state’s most outstanding high school senior player by the Minnesota All Sports Alliance. The winner is selected by a group of National Hockey League scouts, Junior scouts, coaches and media members.

According to the Norsemen, Strand played eight games for the team last season and rejoined the squad two weeks ago after finishing his high school season for Roseau. He’s played in 5 games this season for St. Cloud, scoring 3 goals and adding 3 assists. He has 11 points in 13 career games for the Norsemen.

According to a press release, the St. Cloud Norsemen are now 31-14-2-1 overall and sit atop the Central Division with 65 points and a nine-point lead over second-place Aberdeen. St. Cloud is on the road on Friday, March 18 at Austin and hosts the third-place Bruins at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 19 at 7:00 p.m. For ticket information, click here.
