(KNSI) – Families can discover how maple syrup goes from a tree to the top of pancakes at two events near St. Joseph. Registration is open for the next couple of weeks for the Wildwood Ranch Maple Syrup tours. The tours are free, but registration is required.

The hour-long tour begins at the Sugar Shack located at 29709 Kipper Road near St. Joseph. The syruping operation will be open to the public on Sunday, March 27th at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 PM and again on Sunday, April 3rd at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 PM.

Tours include a short walk to the maple forest to see traditional and modern ways of collecting maple sap with buckets and vacuum pipelines. Mud-appropriate footwear is recommended in the woods. In the sugar house, the tour will demonstrate how processing equipment like reverse osmosis machines and evaporators convert sap from the trees into syrup.

The family-run business is located in Kraemer Lake – Wildwood County Park. According to Stearns County Officials, The modern maple syrup operation has been going on for more than 40 years.
