(KNSI) – A St. Cloud area foundation’s donation will pay for the programming for an organization raising young girls’ self-esteem. Jason Bernick with the Bernick Family Foundation presented the Sartell BIO (Beautiful Inside and Out) Girls group with a $6,000 check on Thursday, March 10th. The donation fully funds the program in 2022.

The groups’ goal is to help adolescent girls with mental health, healthy relationships, leadership, and kindness. BIO Girls is a 12-week program that builds self-worth in girls in grades two through six with life skills, curriculum, mentoring and non-competitive physical activity.

According to a press release, girls with high self-esteem are more likely to make value-based decisions rather than falling victim to peer pressure and avoid destructive behaviors like drugs, alcohol, and risky relationships. Officials say the program is also teaching valuable skills such as value identification.

Officials say without the generosity of the Bernick foundation, BIO girls would have to place additional efforts at fundraising instead of tightly focused efforts on the program’s ideals.
