(KNSI) — A Big Lake man charged with two felonies after allegedly exchanging sexually-based emails and messages with who he thought was a 15-year-old girl has pleaded guilty.

Matthew Eugene Piram pled guilty Friday to one felony charge of engaging in electronic communication describing sexual conduct with a child.

According to a criminal complaint, in September of 2021, Piram exchanged sexually explicit messages with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old girl on an anonymous chat website, which law enforcement says is often used to solicit children to engage in sexual conduct. The messages actually went to an investigator with the Central Minnesota Human Trafficking Task Force. In the messages, Piram was allegedly aware of the girl’s age he believed he was talking to.

The 33-year-old Piram was tracked to a home in Big Lake, where a search warrant was carried out. Police seized electronic devices and took photos inside the home. Piram was arrested and also charged with soliciting a child.

He will be sentenced in May.
