(KNSI) — Businesswoman and longtime St. Cloud area resident Bernie Perryman announced Wednesday that she will run for the Minnesota House in District 14A in the race to succeed Rep. Tama Theis, who announced earlier this month that she would run for the Minnesota Senate.

“I’m running to make sure Central Minnesota continues to have strong leadership focused on creating good jobs, lowering our taxes, and keeping our communities safe,” Perryman said.

“My priorities are to address Minnesota’s growing crime problem by supporting our law enforcement and holding criminals accountable, ending the unfair tax on our seniors’ social security benefits, and returning the $9.3 billion surplus to taxpayers through major tax cuts. I look forward to my conversations with my neighbors and area residents in the coming weeks and months about the issues that are important to them.”

Perryman is the owner and CEO of two Batteries Plus stores in St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids and previously managed the beverage distributor C and L Distributing in Sauk Rapids. She is the current Chair of the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce and a Commissioner for the St. Cloud City Economic Development Authority. Perryman also serves as a member of the Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation Board, where she’s also worked with the Community OutPost, or COP House.

Tami Calhoun announced Tuesday that she would also be running for Representative in District 14A.

Following redistricting, District 14A includes portions of St. Cloud and St. Joseph and the communities of Waite Park and Saint Augusta.
