(KNSI) — The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office says the suspicious death at a home in Motley has been ruled a homicide.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, a 911 call came in about 9:40 a.m. March 6th from someone saying he had gotten a phone call from a friend who indicated he killed his girlfriend. Deputies and members of the Motley Police Department responded and made contact with 60-year-old Harold Wassather. He was detained, and police searched the house and found the body of 66-year-old Christine Nygard. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Wassather was arrested and has been formally charged with second-degree murder.
Police say Wassather and Nygard were in a relationship, and they both lived at the home.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation, which is still ongoing.
Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen issued a statement Tuesday saying, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family for this senseless act of violence and to the First Responders that investigated and processed the scene. The victim tragically lost her life to domestic violence, which could have been prevented.”
