(KNSI) — A 20-year-old Minneapolis man has been charged with theft, motor vehicle theft, and fleeing police after allegedly stealing a car, ditching it in Sauk Centre, and then trying to steal a truck and running from the police when he was caught.

According to the criminal complaint, a state trooper responded to a stalled car blocking the ramp’s turn lane on Interstate 94 and Highway 71. The trooper learned the car was stolen out of Minneapolis and said drug paraphernalia was found inside, and marijuana shreds were scattered throughout the car.

A search for the driver led police to Trucker’s Inn, where an employee said he was clearing snow when he saw a man, identified as Jama Hersi Dualle, get into his truck and try to drive away. The owner said Dualle didn’t get very far because there was a plow on the front of the truck, and it was dragging on the ground. He said Dualle got out of the truck and ran, along with another person standing near the building.

Police said they saw Dualle and the other man, Hassan Siraj, walking across Highway 71 toward a car dealership parking lot. The criminal complaint says Dualle fled, jumping over a fence and onto the Felling Trailers property. Employees led police to where Dualle was hiding. Police say Dualle ran again but was stopped and arrested.

Siraj told police he didn’t know Dualle and needed a ride from Fargo to Minneapolis.

Bail was set at $5,000. Dualle is due back in court on March 22nd.
