(KNSI) – In a meeting Tuesday, the Benton County Board of Commissioners approved authorizing lawyer Scott T. Anderson to file civil action against Nadean Inman, the current Benton County Auditor-Treasurer, for perjury.

An investigation into Inman’s residency by the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office finds Inman filed to run for the position in 2018 using an address in Sauk Rapids, but vehicle registrations, property tax records, and cell phone data show her primarily at an address in Becker.

State law states an individual running for office must live in the district for 30 days before the general election. While Sauk Rapids is in Benton County, Becker is in Sherburne.

According to a report from the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, Inman rented a room in Sauk Rapids until April of 2020, when her lease was terminated due to COVID concerns. Records obtained from Verizon through a warrant show significant usage at the Becker residence and at her place of employment in Foley, but little or no usage at the Sauk Rapids address between July 2019 and April 2020. The investigation shows Inman listed an address in Becker in the county human resources and payroll systems.

In October 2020, the Sherburne County Attorney’s Office declined to file criminal charges, claiming they could not prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, but Benton County officials could pursue civil action.
