(KNSI) — The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced Wednesday morning that a 14-mile long project on Highway 23 will between Foley and Milaca would start in May.

Crews will be reconstructing one mile of Highway 23 from Broadway Avenue to east of 13th Avenue in Foley. That work will include a new roundabout at 8th Avenue/Penn Street. Twelve miles of Highway 23 will also be resurfaced from East of 13th Avenue in Foley to the Rum River bridge in Milaca. MnDOT says the work will improve access at several intersections with Highway 23 in Foley, through Ronneby, Oak Park, Foreston, and west of Milaca. Underground culverts and drainage pipes will also be repaired or replaced.

During the work, Highway 23 will be closed, and a detour will be in place for the project’s duration, which will start in May and continue through November of this year. The detour uses Broadway Avenue South in Foley, Benton County Road 4, Mille Lacs County Road 12, and Highway 169 in Milaca. A truck route will also be available via Highway 95 and Highway 169.

MnDOT says access will be maintained and open to those who live, work or visit; however, drivers should expect changes and gravel surfaces.
