(KNSI) – Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has joined an investigation into the social media site TikTok. The investigation will examine how TikTok promoted its social media platform to children and young adults, possibly in violation of state consumer protection laws.
Ellison has been concerned about social media before. In May 2021, he was part of a coalition that urged Facebook to abandon plans to launch a version of the social media platform Instagram for children under 13. Ellison also joined an investigation into Meta Platforms, Inc., formerly known as Facebook, for providing and promoting Instagram to children in November of 2021.
The bipartisan investigation into TikTok is led by the attorneys general from California, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Vermont.
