(KNSI) – Military experts are warning of a potential cyberattack by Russia against allies like the United States as the Russian Army advances into Ukraine. Vice President of Business Development for Net V Pro Keith Swingle says some companies are more likely to be targeted.
“Although the warnings are out there, there hasn’t been a detected uptick in attacks. Now, that’s not to say it’s not going to happen. So, if you’re working with a large national bank, they’re probably a target if you’re staying local, likely not the same threat landscape.”
On Monday, Toyota’s manufacturing in Japan was shut down due to a suspected cyber attack however, it’s unclear if Russia was behind the attack.
Swingle says he would be on the lookout for cyberattacks that disrupt services like the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack in May of 2021, which shut down the pipeline. He says attacks on banks, water treatment facilities, manufacturing, and power plants are the most likely.
“Retaliatory things could start to happen. So be sensitive to your accounts, be checking on your accounts, and it doesn’t hurt to change that password.”
Swingle says it wouldn’t be a bad idea to keep some cash around. Also, gas in your car and in a gas can just in case of a cyberattack. For businesses that need help or want to make sure their systems are protected from cyberattacks, call Net V Pro at 320-493-3668.
