(KNSI) – Tama Theis has announced plans to run for the Minnesota Senate. Representative Tama Theis, currently representing District 14A in the Minnesota House, announced her intentions to run for Minnesota Senate in an exclusive interview with KNSI.
Theis said her decision has nothing to do with recent redistricting. “After discussing with my family, friends, and supporters, and it’s been about three years worth of talking, I have decided to run for the Senate in District 14, It’s not necessarily redistricting thing. It’s just something I’ve been really thinking about for a long time.”
The seat is currently held by Aric Putnam, a Democrat from St. Cloud. Theis will seek the Republican nomination to the seat.
Theis says discussions with her constituents have shown a disconnect between people and the votes in St. Paul. “I hear from so many people in the community when I’m out and about that we do need a Senator who understands our values and listens to the needs of our communities. With the rising crime, increasing costs, heavy-handed government, we’re doing some really bad things to our state. I really have prided myself in listening to a lot of the people in our district. And I’m not seeing that reflected in some of the things that are happening in votes on the floor.”
The Republican State Convention will take place May 13-14 in Rochester.
