(KNSI) — A 21-year-old from St. Cloud is now charged with five felonies after an altercation that left a man with a life-threatening stab wound.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Benton County Court, just before midnight on February 17th, Sauk Rapids police were called to an assault at an apartment building in the 1200 block of 2nd Avenue North. A woman there said a man at the unit had been stabbed by her ex-boyfriend, identified in court papers as Demaun Marquis Ford.
The woman told police she and he boyfriend were on the couch with their baby when Ford ran into the apartment, ran through the kitchen, and began “beating on” her boyfriend. She said her boyfriend was holding the baby while he was being attacked. The criminal complaint says the apartment door was not locked, and she has no idea how Ford even got into the building. She told police her boyfriend stabbed Ford during the struggle to get him off of him, and Ford stabbed her boyfriend in the back.
By the time police arrived, they said the victim was lying in a large pool of blood. Investigators say the man was conscious but pale and told them he was having trouble breathing. They say he told them he stabbed Ford because he was wrestling on top of him with his baby. The man was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Ford was not at the scene when police arrived, but the couple provided police with a vehicle and clothing description and locations where he may be.
Police found Ford a short time later and arrested him. He reportedly complained of injuries to his side, but none were found. The criminal complaint says police found a small cut on one of Ford’s fingers and two small scratch marks near the left side of his back, and cuts to his shirt.
He has been charged with three counts of first-degree burglary and one count each of first and second-degree assault.
