(KNSI) — The immediate St. Cloud area seems to have escaped the worst of the snow with this latest storm, but that’s not the case for areas to the north.
Forecast models released just ahead of the snowfall showed St. Cloud in line to get 12 to 18 inches of snow, but the forecast shifted the higher totals to the north.
The National Weather Service posted the official snow totals from the storm that blanketed the area Monday and Tuesday. The highest was in Duluth at 20 inches. Superior, Wisconsin, received 19 inches. Camp Ripley, just north of Little Falls, for 14.9 inches. Little Falls measured 13 inches of snow. Sartell got 4.5 inches, and according to the National Weather Service’s snowfall reporting website, many areas around St. Cloud got between three and five inches.
High winds during and after the snowfall made it difficult in some areas to get an accurate reading as the light, fluffy snow blew away.
There may be some comfort on the way for winter weary Minnesotans. Meteorological spring, considered the bridge between the three coldest and three warmest months of the year, begins March 1st.
