(KNSI) – The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for Morrison and Stearns Counties.
Forecasters say blizzard conditions have visibility down to less than a quarter-mile in some areas due to winds gusting as high as 50 miles an hour and blowing snow. They also warn that the high winds could bring down tree branches.
Travel should be reduced to emergencies only, and if people must travel, have a winter survival kit.
The blizzard warning for Stearns County is in effect until 9:00 Friday night.
A winter weather advisory is also in place for Benton, Sherburne, and Wright Counties until 9:00 Friday night.
Snow showers are expected through the afternoon and evening, with total snow accumulations of up to one inch. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph, reducing visibility and creating whiteout conditions.
Temps will also come crashing down, potentially causing a flash freeze.
Roads in northwestern Minnesota are closed, and several others are under a no travel advisory due to whiteout conditions in that area.
